KESC closes unit of Bin Qasim Plant

KARACHI: The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has closed Unit No. 4 of Bin Qasim Power Plant over gas shortage, raising fears that it may further raise the duration of load shedding.

According to KESC sources, the company is faced with a constant gas shortage due to which it had to shut down one unit of Bin Qasim Plant.

The closure of the unit led to a further reduction of 200 MW, bringing the overall power shortfall in Karachi to 700 MW.

Sources added that five to 14 hours of unscheduled outages are already being carried out in residential areas.

On the other hand, a KESC spokesman claimed that the closure would not disturb the ongoing load shedding schedule
