Petroleum items’ shortage after Parco closure

MUZAFFARGARH: The residents of Multan and nearby cities facing petroleum shortage after the closure of the flood-hit Pak Arab Refinery, the country’s largest in terms of production, said sources Tuesday.

Parco, known as the mid-country refinery because of its location at Mahmood Kot in Punjab, had to be closed on Saturday after floodwater entered its plants. The 100,000 barrels per day refinery meets most of the requirements of Punjab and Khyber-Pukhtunkhawa.

The residents of Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal and nearby cities facing scarcity of petroleum.

The petroleum ministry has directed other refineries, especially the Attock Refinery Limited, which is closest to Parco, to operate at maximum possible capacity to meet the shortage.

All the CNG stations were closed in Muzaffargarh after the flood warning issued. The petrol was being sold at the price of Rs300 per liter
