Pak. lawyers observe Nov. 3 as black day to evoke Musharraf’s act

ISLAMABAD: Lawyers all across Pakistan are observing Nov. 3 (today) as a black day to evoke ex-president Pervez Musharraf’s extra constitutional act against the judiciary.

The ex-president Pervez Musharraf imposed an emergency, in the capacity of army chief, on November 3, 2010 and sacked all prominent judges of the higher courts and the Supreme Court including the Chief Justice of Pakistan and ordered the remaining and newly hired judges to take new oath under PCO.

The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) issued separate calls for observing black day on Wednesday (today).

The SCBA has said in its announcement that November 3 will be observed as a black day against the imposition of the gun’s law in the country.

The PBC has said for the occasion that all lawyers will express their determination on black day against the unconstitutional act of the ex-president.

The newly elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jehangir, has said that the November 3’s act was not the first one from any dictator but it shall remain last of its kind
