Govt. set to raise power tariff by 2%

KARACHI: After dropping a petrol bomb on the nation, the government is all set to raise electricity tariffs by two percent.

The new hike is being announced in line with instructions by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The government has hiked prices of electricity by 90% in the name of fuel adjustment surcharge during the last year and a half.

Under IMF's conditions, the government now intends to increase the per unit price of electricity by another 20% by June 2011.

People say that days are not far when only the affluent section of society will have access to electricity
