LAHORE: Rampant lawyers and police were face to face again for the third straight day on Saturday, converting the Lower Mall area into a battle ground. Defying the Section 144, hundreds of charged lawyers took out a rally at Aiwan-e-Adl in Lahore. Despite the heavy deployment of security persons outside the Aiwan-e-Adl, lawyers managed to beat up several policemen in a tit-for-tat spat, leaving many of them injured. Lawyers pelted stones on police mobiles and chanted slogans. Police had to fire teargas shells disperse the protesting lawyers. As a result, several lawyers sustained injures, while few of them fell unconscious. The participants of the rally staged a token sit-in on Lower Mall. Meanwhile, Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) called an urgent meeting and decided to hold nationwide conventions next week |
