The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) Labour Union staged a protest meeting against the “atrocities of KESC administration” at the Power House, here on Sunday.
The protest was participated in by scores of KESC workers, who chanted slogans against the corporation’s administration.
The chairman of the union, Mohammed Ikhlaq, said that six KESC workers had died of electrocution within the last few weeks while on duty, adding that two of them were electrocuted just last week.
He alleged that the KESC management was not fulfilling the Charter of Demands (CoD) inked between Collective Bargaining Agency (CBA) and the management.
Ikhlaq pointed out that according to the CoD, 60 percent of the vacant posts would be filled by hiring heirs of deceased workers, but the KESC seemed reluctant to go ahead with the agreement. He demanded of the KESC management to provide jobs to the heirs of those who had lost their lives while discharging duties.
