Family seeks FIR against KESC as son dies of electrocution

Karachi

A minor boy, Wakeel, 6, son of Abdul Ghafoor, was electrocuted by live wires lying in a street within the Taimuria police limits Sunday evening.

As a reaction to the baby boy’s death, the family and residents protested and blocked the road to vehicular traffic and demanded of the authorities to lodge an FIR against the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC).

The SHO, Chaudhry Irshaad, said that Wakeel was playing outside his house situated in KBR Society behind Piyala hotel, Buffer Zone.

A live wire of KESC was lying on the street. As Wakeel came close to the wire, he was electrocuted. The residents and family members immediately took the child to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Consequently, the locality’s residents came over to Piyala hotel in protest and blocked the road to vehicular traffic. They pelted the passing vehicles with stones. Police, however, reached the spot and controlled the situation.

He added that, the traffic was diverted to other routes so that no traffic mess occurred. SHO Irshaad said that, the family were assured cooperation and were told to take the boy Wakeel to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities and if the medical report confirms that the boy had died due to electrocution, then they would go in for the legal procedure.

On assurance the protestors ended their protest and moved back to their houses while the family took the deceased to the hospital for medical examination.

He added that police had also asked the grieving family and residents if they had complained to the KESC and if the answer was in the affirmative, then they should give the complaint number so that legal proceedings could be instituted against the KESC.

He said that if the family provided the complaint number then they would file an FIR under section 322/34 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
